We are part of Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE), a wonderful association promoting, empowering and supporting small-scale fishers across Europe. Last week, we had the chance to participate in Make Fishing Fair Forum in Brussels where more than 40 small-scale fishers gathered to present our collective Roadmap to achieve fair fisheries to the European Commission. The repair of fish processing space in Tohmajärvi has been finalized and we have managed to kick off our autumn fishery! Karoliina, Tytti and Huilin have adjusted the fyke traps in Lake Onkamo and our self-service store has been filled with a variety of fish products. The finest fish of all, vendace (Coregonus albula), is sold out for now. We only catch vendace in the winter in Lake Puruvesi - thus vendace delicacies will be available in January 2026, again.
